Age appropriate arrangement on the other manus is the arrangement of pick for all pupils with or without particular demands that are within chronologically age appropriate regular schoolrooms. Students with disabilities have the same environment as non-handicapped equals of similar age in order to better the quality of interactions in those environments. Inclusive preschool schoolrooms are designed to run into the demands of each kid. Classrooms are staffed by extremely trained professionals in both kid attention and particular instruction. In add-on, the schoolroom physical environment supports all of the users. The kids have all of their day-to-day activities together and th e kids are seen as persons and it is recognized that all kids are on a continuum of development. I believe the ââ¬Å" Best Plan â⬠depends upon the specific demands of the kid. Developmentally appropriate course of study should supply for all countries of a kid ââ¬Ës development ; physical, emotional, societal, lingual, and cognitive. The course of study should besides construct upon what kids already know and are able to make to consolidate their acquisition and to further their acquisition of new constructs and accomplishments. The General instruction instructor ââ¬Ës function is critical ; he or she provides support for pupils by repeating or lucubrating on the pupil ââ¬Ës verbal parts. It is based on the single kid ââ¬Ës demands, taking into history the kid ââ¬Ës strengths, penchants, and involvements. The jurisprudence is really clear in saying that every effort must be made to guarantee that pupils take part meaningfully in their ain passage planning. IDEA ordinances require schools to affect the pupil in the planning procedure to the maximal extent possible, every bit good as to guarantee that the pupil ââ¬Ës penchants and involvements are considered in composing the ends and aims. The passage from school to adult life is a complex and dynamic procedure. Passage planning should stop with the transportation of support from the school to an grownup service bureau, entree to postsecondary instruction, or life as an independent grownup. ( Hardman, Drew, A ; Egan, 2008 ) Planing for pupil ââ¬Ës future requires the position of multiple people who are vested in the pupil ââ¬Ës life. Drawing On What You Have Learned About City Road Essay Paper Example For Students
Drawing On What You Have Learned About City Road Essay Paper Its a constant tension and imbalance of social order to meet the needs of both tourists and pedestrians. The numerous controlled crossings, although help pedestrians access their destination, in turn has an adverse effect for motorists accumulating traffic and increases social disorder between motorists and pedestrians as they fight for space among the road. Contrasting in comparison is that City Road has developed a better infrastructure for meeting the demands of both the motorists and pedestrians within the community. The most visible being the traffic islands; the purpose of that is to make it easier for people to cross the road (Rodney Barman, Material Lives, 2009, Scene l), Rodney also explains hove there are plenty of crossing points for pedestrians but that too many controlled crossings impact on traffic. Green Lanes is one of the longest roads in the capital. You can find a wide range of restaurants and shops. Similar to City Road because they are both extremely diverse and multicultural. This instantly establishes multiple identities. For example, on Green Lanes, youll find a little cafeà ©, called Georges thats run by Greeks. On their menu, youll find a selection Of both Greek dishes and English dishes. This cafeà © is a fascinating place because although it thrives Off Greek community, there is also British identity present. Georges also has scenic pictures of London landmarks on the wall, and the dà ©cord makes it look like an English cafeà ©, whilst maintaining the Greek sense to community. This can also be seen on City road in one of the restaurants there called the Mezzo Ulna. Owned by Info AY-Kelley, it contains an Arabic theme, whilst also honoring the Welsh heritage by including the Welsh dragon. Both restaurants have made more than one culture feel invited and welcome. Another inequality have observed on City Road and Green Lanes is how he impact of the arrival of franchises such as Testes have had on small, independent business, such as newsagents. In the Making Social Lives DVD, Lloyd Barker talks to one particular newsagents that has been established since 1930, now owned and run by Colic Butler. Although the arrival of Testes hasnt put him out of business, he does talk about the arrival of Spar roars ago, forcing one of his competitors to close their business, Comparing this to Green Lanes, found a difference in the impact of arrival of franchises. Decos opened an Express store amidst lots of grocers supplying Greek Produce. Testà ¶s is a thriving, popular business, bringing in copious amounts of customers. Having a car park, advantages the company also, as this makes it easier for motorists to quickly stop off on the way to and from ivory. However, in a mostly Greek community, the local shops have survived, effortlessly relying on loyalty from customers and providing them with the same good quality products they can find back home in their native country. One thing Green Lanes does lack in the community is a leisure centre or sports hall, Theres a basketball court in one of the playgrounds, however, tit it being gated off, it seems to exclude people from going there. The people that tend to use it are groups of friends, potentially making others feel uncomfortable about using it. Deiced a similarity in City Roads Sports Club, John Closely is a coach here and he comments about the type of people that use the club; its quite daunting this big place where its all gated Off They want to play, they kick in and theyre like that looks private and expensive (Making Social Lives On City Road, 2009, scene 7). In conclusion, have shown that there are various inequalities within the immunity that can have a profound effect on soci al order and impact on the people and motorists.

Who Killed Jfk Essays - Lee Harvey Oswald, JFK, Warren Commission
Who Killed Jfk? Who Killed JFK? Who Killed JFK? You may ask why I say this, but its something you really need to know. If you believe that Lee Harvey Oswald killed him then you are taking part in probably the biggest government conspiracy known to man. This massive cover-up will last for years and probably violate every single law known to man. Well, when the people started to get suspicious about the mystery involving the murder, the government dispatched the Warren Commission to investigate and silence all doubts concerning the mystery around the murder of President Kennedy. The warren commission established a single bullet theory, which stated that two of President Kennedys wounds and all five of Governor Connallys were caused by the magic bullet, to back up all claims that Lee Oswald was the only person shooting at the president. In September 1964 the Warren Commission stated that they could find no credible evidence that there was a conspiracy. The Warren Commission also wanted the people to believe the fatal head shot that killed JFK was fired by Oswald. That means that the exit wound must be in the front of the head and the entrance wound in the back of the head. All of the eye witnesses, doctors, and nurses that saw the presidents head would of said that the exit of the bullet was in the back of the head, which means that there was another shooter who was in front of JFK. All of the real autopsy photographs of the presidents head showed that the exit wound was in the back of the head, hard proof that there was another shooter which means conspiracy. Lee Oswald had no apparent motive to murder President Kennedy. There is not a single known instance in Oswalds life where he expressed even a slight negative comment in reference to President Kennedy. Right after the shooting Patrolman Marion Baker headed straight to where he thought the shots came from, The Texas School Book Depository, 105 seconds after the first shot, when he reached the second floor cafeteria by stairs, he saw Oswald sitting down drinking a coke, after a positive check to see if Oswald worked there he headed up the back stairs on pursuit. While in jail the police interrogated Oswald for twelve straight hours and failed to keep any written, tape, or video record of the interrogation. Before Oswald had any chance to consult a lawyer he was killed by Jack Ruby when being transferred by police. Was Oswald a cover-up guy for the government to place blame on? According to Robert Groden since November 1963, there have more than 400 deaths of witnesses to the assignation of President Kennedy, witnesses to Lee Oswalds activities, Jack Rubys associates, those involved in the medical procedures at Parkland Hospital, and the autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital. The causes of these deaths are sometimes quite bazarre. Death by karate chop, gunshot, and slit throat are not exactly natural causes of death, yet many obvious murders were deemed natural. The most famous person to die was news reporter, Dorthy Kilagallen, who was the only person allowed to interview Jack Ruby in jail. She stated that she would fly to New Orleans and break this mystery wide open. On November 8,1963 she was found dead of a massive barbiturate overdose. Was this murder or not? Some people and groups who are possibly involved in the murder and cover-up are people at odds with JFK or who had something to gain over his death. One possibility are tyrannical and ego-centric head of FBI J. Edgar Hoover, who was also at war with JFK. Some others are several powerful factions of the CIA and the Anti-Castro Cuban community over the Bay of Pigs fiasco. So who really killed JFK, well no one really knows because the government buried all evidence deep within secret files for the protection of us. I believe that Oswald is innocent and just a cover-up man, and it was high powered government officials who had something to gain from his death. So who killed him, I will leave that to you. Paying For The Latest War In Iraq essays
Paying For The Latest War In Iraq essays At the onset of the latest war with Iraq, in the early spring of 2003, it was already certain that the cost for the war alone would be staggering. The cost of the first Persian Gulf War (1990-1991) was somewhere in the area of sixty one billion dollars (International Security Studies Commission). On the 7th of September, 2003, President George W. Bush, backed by the White House, made a request to congress that would allow for an additional $87 billion in spending for the continuing occupation and reconstruction of the countries of Iraq and Afghanistan. This comes following the $65 billion that the White House recently received for its activities in Iraq in 2003. Of the $87 billion, the White House says that $66 billion would go towards military operation, while the remaining $21 billion would be used in the reconstruction of both Iraq and Afghanistan. We can now see, that what once was labeled a Quick Yield investment in the reconstruction of Iraq has become a heavy burden for American taxpayers. One very big debate about the money for the restoration and rebuilding of Iraq is whether it should be a grant or a loan. This is the task undertaken by Appropriations Chairman Ted Stevens and his committee, who in turn accepted the presidents full package. More than a dozen senators led by republican Pete Domenici and democrat Dianne Feinstein, worked on plans which would shift some of the burden of the reconstruction plan from American taxpayers to the Iraqi people (Stone- USA Today Oct. 1). Bush administration officials have admitted that the $21 billion will fall short of the estimated $50-100 billion required for Iraqi reconstruction o ver the next few years (Weisman -New York Times Oct. 8). The Bush administration has admitted that its initial claims that Iraqs oil revenues would be able to cover the huge costs of reconstruction were greatly overstated. United States officials project Iraqi oil revenues ...

Definition and Discussion of Feminist Rhetoric
Definition and Discussion of Feminist Rhetoric Feminist rhetoric is the study and practice of feminist discourses in public and private life. In content, says Karlyn Kohrs Campbell*, feminist rhetoric drew its premises from a radical analysis of patriarchy, which identified the man-made world as one built on the oppression of women...In addition, it incorporates a style of communication known as consciousness-raising (Encyclopedia of Rhetoric and Composition, 1996). See Examples and Observations below. Also, the following readings provide examples and related concepts: Seneca Falls ResolutionsLanguage and Gender StudiesSusan B. Anthony and the struggle for womens right to voteRogerian Argument Examples and Observations The following examples and observations consider feminist rhetoric through different lenses, offering more contexts for understanding. Evolution of Feminist Rhetoric In the 1980s, feminist rhetoric scholars began making three moves: writing women into the history of rhetoric, writing feminist issues into theories of rhetoric, and writing feminist perspectives into rhetorical criticism. Initially, these scholars drew on feminist scholarship from other disciplines...Once inspired, however, feminist rhetoric scholars began writing scholarship from the site of rhetoric and composition... In the midst of this scholarly activity, intersections of rhetoric and feminist studies have been institutionalized within rhetoric and composition studies, thanks largely to the work of the Coalition of Women Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition, which was organized by Winifred Horner, Jan Swearingen, Nan Johnson, Marjorie Curry Woods, and Kathleen Welch in 1988-1989 and was carried on by scholars such as Andrea Lunsford, Jackie Royster, Cheryl Glenn, and Shirley Logan. Jarratt views sophistic rhetoric as a feminist rhetoric and one with significant ethical implications. The sophists believed that law and truth derived from nomoi, local habits or customs that could change from city to city, region to region. The philosophers in the Platonic tradition, of course, challenged this sort of relativism, insisting on the ideal of Truth (logos, universal laws that would be acommunal). Source: James E. [James L.] Kinneavy wants to recover the positive aspects of persuasion under the heading of the audiences volition, free will, and assent, and is successful in this enterprise by borrowing for pisteuein [belief] elements gleaned from scanning forward into Christian pistis. The history of Apple begins in 1976 when Stephen Gary Wozniak and Steven Paul Jobs began working on the Apple I. When the design was finished Wozniak and Jobââ¬â¢s tried to sell it to Hewlett Packard but there was no interest in the Apple I. By April 1976 Ron Wayne had joined Jobs and Wozniak and designed the first Apple logo. Wayne sees the financial risk being too high and resigns. The Essentials of Marketing Mix Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
The Essentials of Marketing Mix - Essay Example Therefore, the marketing mix for each of these product categories also needs to be different. It seems that marketers use different marketing mix strategies even for goods under the same product category. This paper will analyse the marketing mix strategies of two existing brands that market luxury goods. Theoretical Concepts of the Marketing Mix Elements The term ââ¬Ëmarketing mixââ¬â¢ was firstly used by Neil Borden in 1953. The theory of marketing mix contains four main elements called 4 Pââ¬â¢s of marketing; product, price, place, and promotion. These four elements constitute the entire promotional campaign; and ââ¬Å"when these are effectively blended, they form a marketing program that provides want-satisfying goods and services to the companyââ¬â¢s market (Spiro, Stanton, and Rich, 2003, p.10). The term marketing mix reflects a broader concept that includes several marketing aspects which all work toward a similar objective of creating awareness and customer loyal ty. Every firm considers marketing mix as a vital strategy as the elements of marketing mix play a significant role in each stage of product life cycle. In the modern days, ââ¬Ëpeopleââ¬â¢ is added as the 5th P to the marketing mix elements in order to represent the target people. The 4 Pââ¬â¢s of marketing are briefly described below. 1. ... Product is a crucial element that has the ability to lead the whole business operations to success or failure. Hence, in order to retain product competitiveness in the market, marketers usually employ product differentiation strategy as a tool to differentiate their products from those of its competitors. In short, while marketing a product, the marketer must take specific product decisions regarding ranges of factors like brand name, functionality, packaging, warranty, styling, and quality. 2. Price Simply, price determines the numerical value of the product or it is the amount that a customer pays for the product. A marketer may increase or decrease the price of his product according to its demand in the market. Different pricing strategies are used to price a product in various situations. Premium pricing is a most common pricing strategy by which a higher price is charged for the product; it is practiced if the product possesses a substantial competitive advantage over the compet ing products. In addition, penetration pricing, economy pricing, price skimming, psychological pricing, geographical pricing, and numbers of others pricing strategies are used to price a product. Marketers must take price flexibility and price discrimination into account while formulating pricing decisions. 3. Place Place represents a location where a product is marketed. It may either be a physical store or be a virtual store on the internet. According the theory of marketing mix, the place also refers to channel, distribution, or intermediary. In other words, place is the channel through which goods and services are moved from the marketer to the ultimate consumers. The marketer has to formulate clear decisions on distribution channels; for instance, he has

Small Basic and Programming Essay Example for Free
Small Basic and Programming Essay Computer Programming is defined as the process of creating computer software using programming languages. Just like we speak and understand English or Spanish or French, computers can understand programs written in certain languages. These are called programming languages. In the beginning there were just a few programming languages and they were really easy to learn and comprehend. But as computers and software became more and more sophisticated, programming languages evolved fast, gathering more complex concepts along the way. As a result most modern programming languages and their concepts are pretty challenging to grasp by a beginner. This fact has started discouraging people from learning or attempting computer programming. Small Basic is a programming language that is designed to make programming extremely easy, approachable and fun for beginners. Small Basicââ¬â¢s intention is to bring down the barrier and serve as a stepping stone to the amazing world of computer programming. The Small Basic Environment Let us start with a quick introduction to the Small Basic Environment. When you first launch SmallBasic, you will see a window that looks like the following figure. Figure 1 The Small Basic Environment This is the Small Basic Environment, where weââ¬â¢ll write and run our Small Basic programs. This environment has several distinct elements which are identified by numbers. The Editor, identified by [1] is where we will write our Small Basic programs. When you open a sample program or a previously saved program, it will show up on this editor. You can then modify it and save if for later use. You can also open and work with more than one program at one time. Each program you are working with will be displayed in a separate editor. The editor that contains the program you are currently working with is called the active editor. The Toolbar, identified by [2] is used to issue commands either to the active editor or the environment. Weââ¬â¢ll learn about the various commands in the toolbar as we go. The Surface, identified by [3] is the place where all the editor windows go. Our First Program Now that you are familiar with the Small Basic Environment, we will go ahead and start programming in it. Like we just noted above, the editor is the place where we write our programs. So letââ¬â¢s go ahead and type the following line in the editor. TextWindow.WriteLine(Hello World) This is our first Small Basic program. And if you have typed it correctly, you should see something similar to the figure below. Figure 2 First Program Now that we have typed our new program, letââ¬â¢s go ahead and run it to see what happens. We can run our program either by clicking on the Run button on the toolbar or by using the shortcut key, F5 on the keyboard. If everything goes well, our program should run with the result as shown below. Figure 3 First Program Output Congratulations! You have just written and run the first Small Basic program. A very small and simple program, but nevertheless a big step towards becoming a real computer programmer! Now, thereââ¬â¢s just one more detail to cover before we go on to create bigger programs. We have to understand what just happened ââ¬â what exactly did we tell the computer and how did the computer know what to do? In the next chapter, weââ¬â¢ll analyze the program we just wrote, so we can gain that understanding. As you typed your first program, you might have noticed that a popup appeared with a list of items (Figure 4). This is called ââ¬Å"intellisenseâ⬠and it helps you type your program faster. You can traverse that list by pressing the Up/Down arrow keys, and when you find something you want, you can hit the Enter key to insert the selected item in your program. Figure 4 Intellisense Saving our program If you want to close Small Basic and come back later to work on the program you just typed, you can save the program. It is in fact a good practice to save programs from time to time, so that you donââ¬â¢t lose information in the event of an accidental shutdown or a power failure. You can save the current program by either clicking on the ââ¬Å"saveâ⬠icon on the toolbar or by using the shortcut ââ¬Å"Ctrl+Sâ⬠(press the S key while holding down the Ctrl key). Chapter 2 Understanding Our First Program What really is a computer program? A program is a set of instructions for the computer. These instructions tell the computer precisely what to do, and the computer always follows these instructions. Just like people, computers can only follow instructions if specified in a language they can understand. These are called programming languages. There are very many languages that the computer can understand and Small Basic is one. Imagine a conversation happening between you and your friend. You and your friends would use words, organized as sentences to convey information back and forth. Similarly, programming languages contain collections of words that can be organized into sentences that convey information to the computer. And programs are basically sets of sentences (sometimes just a few and sometimes many thousands) that together make sense to both the There are many languages that the computer programmer and the computer alike. can understand. Java, C++, Python, VB, etc. are all powerful modern computer languages that Small Basic Programs are used to develop simple to complex software A typical Small Basic program consists of a bunch programs. of statements. Every line of the program represents a statement and every statement is an instruction for the computer. When we ask the computer to execute a Small Basic program, it takes the program and reads the first statement. It understands what weââ¬â¢re trying to say and then executes our instruction. Once itââ¬â¢s done executing our first statement, it comes back to the program and reads and executes the second line. It continues to do so until it reaches the end of the program. That is when our program finishes. Back to Our First Program Here is the first program we wrote: TextWindow.WriteLine(Hello World) This is a very simple program that consists of one statement. That statement tells the computer to write a line of text which is Hello World, into the Text Window. It literally translates in the computerââ¬â¢s mind to: Write Hello World You might have already noticed that the statement can in turn be split into smaller segments much like sentences can be split into words. In the first statement we have 3 distinct segments: a) TextWindow b) WriteLine c) ââ¬Å"Hello Worldâ⬠The dot, parentheses and the quotes are all punctuations that have to be placed at appropriate positions in the statement, for the computer to understand our intent. You might remember the black window that appeared when we ran our first program. That black window is called the TextWindow or sometimes referred to as the Console. That is where the result of this program goes. TextWindow, in our program, is called an object. There are a number of such objects available for us to use in our programs. We can perform several different operations on these objects. Weââ¬â¢ve already used theWriteLine operation in our program. You might also have noticed that the WriteLine operation is followed by Hello World inside quotes. This text is passed as input Punctuations such as quotes, spaces and to the WriteLine operation, which it then prints parenthesis are very important in a computer out to the user. This is called an input to the program. Based on their position and count, operation. Some operations take one or more they can change the meaning of what is being inputs while others donââ¬â¢t take any expressed. Our Second Program Now that you have understood our first program, letââ¬â¢s go ahead and make it fancier by adding some colors. TextWindow.ForegroundColor = Yellow TextWindow.WriteLine(Hello World) Figure 5 Adding Colors When you run the above program, youââ¬â¢ll notice that it prints out the same ââ¬Å"Hello Worldâ⬠phrase inside TextWindow, but this time it prints it out in yellow instead of the gray that it did earlier. Figure 6 Hello World in Yellow Notice the new statement we added to our original program. It uses a new word, ForegroundColor which we equated to a value of ââ¬Å"Yellow.â⬠This means weââ¬â¢ve assigned ââ¬Å"Yellowâ⬠to ForegroundColor. Now, the difference between ForegroundColor and the operation WriteLine is that ForegroundColor did not take any inputs nor did it need any parenthesis. Instead it was followed by an equals to symbol and a word. We define ForegroundColor as a Property of TextWindow. Here is a list of values that are valid for the ForegroundColor property. Try replacing ââ¬Å"Yellowâ⬠with one of these and see the results ââ¬â donââ¬â¢t forget the quotes, they are required punctuations.

Fall of Usher :: essays research papers
"The Fall of the House of Usher" Summary The narrator approaches the House of Usher on a "dull, dark, and soundless day." This house--the estate of his boyhood friend, Roderick Usher--is very gloomy and mysterious. The narrator writes that the house seems to have collected an evil and diseased atmosphere from the decaying trees and murky ponds around it. He notes, however, that although the house itself is decaying in pieces (for example, individual stones are disintegrating), the structure itself is fairly solid. There is only a small break in the front of the building from the roof to the ground. The narrator reveals that he is to stay in this house because his friend, Roderick, sent him a letter earnestly requesting his company. Roderick told the narrator in this letter that he was feeling bodily and emotionally ill, so the narrator rushed to his house. The narrator also mentions that the Usher family, while an ancient clan, never flourished. Only one member of the Usher family survived from generation to gener ation, so they were all in a direct line of descent without any siblings. The inside of the house is just as spooky as the outside. The narrator makes his way through the long passages and to the room where Roderick is waiting. The narrator notes that his friend is paler and less energetic than he once was. Roderick tells the narrator that he suffers from nerves and fear. His senses are heightened. The narrator also notes that Roderick seems afraid of his own house. Further, Roderick's sister, Madeline Usher has taken ill with a mysterious illness that the doctors cannot even identify. The narrator proceeds to spend several days trying to cheer Roderick. He listens to Roderick play the guitar (and makes up words for his songs), he reads to Roderick, he sits with him for hours. Still, he cannot lift his sadness. Soon Roderick posits his theory that the house is unhealthy, just as the narrator had supposed at the beginning of the story. Soon, Madeline dies, and Roderick decides to bury her temporarily in the tombs below the house. He wants to do this because he is afraid that the doctors might dig up her body for scientific examination (since her disease was so strange to them). The narrator helps Roderick put the body in the tomb. He notes that she has rosy cheeks, as some do after death.

Argument for the legalization of Marijuana
Can I see a show of hands how many people have ever smoked Cannabis, also known as Marijuana? I see none of you have raised your hands. Well evidently no one would want to admit to a criminal action in front of others from their community. But why is it that smoking ââ¬Ëpotââ¬â¢ is so forbidden in our society? George Washington said, ââ¬Å"Make the most of the Indian hemp seed, and sow it everywhere! â⬠Marijuana is a natural plant, known to grow in the wild in Central and South Asia. Traces of people smoking Marijuana go back as far as 3,000 B. C so, what had changed over the years to make cannabis illegal? When considering the legalization of marijuana, the normal reaction would be to think about the negative factors of the drug. But what people forget is, marijuanaââ¬â¢s positive features overrule the negatives by far. There would be many benefits if the ââ¬Ëdrugââ¬â¢ where to be legalized, especially for the government and the economy as a whole. Our government spends 500 million pounds a year on ââ¬Ëoverall response to drugsââ¬â¢, but receive no taxes from the estimated 1. 8 billion pound illegal drug market. If our government were to legalize marijuana, they could place high taxes on it because people are used to buying the drug at a high price anyway because of the risk of selling it illegally. This would be very beneficial to the government because they would have a larger increase of tax that then could be fed into the NHS and other funds, which are beneficial to the general public. This brings me neatly onto my next point, I am fully aware of the abuse potential of the drug, but its value to the medical world outweighs this potential by far. Although the argument of legalizing marijuana is extremely controversial, without knowing it, hundreds of people around you are in desperate need of its medical side, and are suffering dramatically without it. How would you feel? Marijuana would be of high value to the suffering, distressed, and disheartened cancer patients fighting for their lives. Let me try and paint you a picture: imagine there is only one medication that will relieve you from the pain you are caused by nausea, marijuana will free you of this pain and will give you a little bit of assurance and courage that you need to keep on believing that you are going to be safe. But yet, we still refuse to believe that the drug is acceptable, but there is something I must ask you all. Do you know what ââ¬Ëthe black marketââ¬â¢ is? Well let me tell you, the black market is a market in goods or services in violation of legal structures defining the scope of appropriate forms of trade. It is a market for products that are illegal or stolen. Marijuana appears frequently in the market, and has become extremely popular. The problem with the drugs produced in the black market is that they are not manufactured under any safety or health regulations, this can result in unsafe drugs being produced and users experiencing problems from consuming unknown substances. If the government where to legalize marijuana they could potentially safe lives, as the drug could be bought in shops from legal proprietors, this would assure users of good quality and information about what you are buying and consuming. Jeffery Miron, the visiting professor of economics at Harvard University estimates the national marijuana market at about 10 billion pounds per year. When will the public and government realize? Marijuana is only dangerous and harmful when sold and consumed illegally, and the government is preventing and keeping us from a product that is so beneficial not only to cancer patients, but also to the paper and clothing industries, the government itself, and for the crime rate of our country. Long gone are the days when we could go outside at night and not be worried about our safety, long gone are the days when we didnââ¬â¢t have to worry about our kids getting involved in gang activity, and long gone are the days in which we had the freedom to consume a substance which satisfied us. I am thoroughly aware of how high the UKââ¬â¢s crime rate is, and how terrifying and worrying it is for the citizens of our country. I am aware that the amount of crime that goes on in our country impacts and affects almost every single person in the country, which is why legalizing marijuana would be extremely helpful. The crime rate in the Netherlands is generally low, especially compared to other European countries with tougher crime polices such as the UK. Indeed, in the UK they have found that 60% of inmates in British jails have served a jail sentence previously. In the UK where the consumption of marijuana is illegal the crime rate is actually higher than in Amsterdam where it is legal and the consumption is lower. This proves that, if our government was to legalize marijuana, it would result in the use actually decreasing, as it is known that when humans are not allowed to do something it appears much more attractive, and have a larger urge to do it.

The Secret Garden close reading Essays
The Secret Garden close reading Essays The Secret Garden close reading Paper The Secret Garden close reading Paper 1 She chirped, and talked, and coaxed and he hopped, and 2 Flirted his tail and twittered. It was as if he were talking. His red 3 Wasitcoat was like satin and he puffed his tiny breast out and 4 Was so fine and so grand and so pretty that it was really as if he 5 Were showing her how important and like a human person a 6 Robin could be. Mistress Mary forgot that she had ever been 7 contrary in her life when he allowed her to draw closer and 8 closer to him, and bend down and talk and try to make some 9 thing like robin sounds. 10 Oh! To think that he should actually let her come as near to 11 him as that! He knew nothing in the world would make her 12 put out her hand toward him or startle him in the least tiniest 13 way. He knew it because he was a real person-only nicer than 14 any other person in the world. She was so happy that she 1 5 scarcely dared to breathe. 16 The flower-bed was not quite bare. It was bare of flowers because 17 Perennial plants had been cut down for their winter 18 Rest, but there were tall shrubs and low ones which grew together 19 At the back f the bed, and as the robin hopped about 20 Under them she saw him hop over a small pile of freshly turned 21 Up earth. He stopped on it to look for a worm. The earth had 22 Been turned up because a dog had been trying to dig up a mole 23 And he had scratched quite a deep hole. Lines 1-2: Burnett creates a happy and busy moment in these two lines by using six OITTerent veros. Mary cnlrpea, ana talked, ana coaxed wnlle tne roDln noppea ana flirted and twittered. This passage has a poetic and lighthearted sound to it, which s exactly how Mary is feeling at the moment. Burnett then describes the robins actions to be as though he were talking. Mary is eager to make friends and have conversations, so it makes sense that the robin is personified. Lines 3-5: This personification is developed further when Burnett describes the robins feathers to be a waistcoat like satin which gives the reader a visual image of a tuxedo that a man would wear. Burnett continues to use repetition, but this time using adjectives when she writes so fine and so grand and so pretty. This literary echnique tells the reader how excited Mary is about the bird. After giving vague personifications of the robin, Burnett finally explicitly says that it is as though the robin was showing her how like a human person it could be. Lines 6-9: This is one of the first times we see Mary become a new girl, one that is not contrary and is excited and intrigued by something. Burnett creates a separation of her nickname, taking off the quite contrary that typically follows Mistress Mary. Mary is not used to anyone being interested in her and the fact that the robin allows er to bend down and talk and try to make something like robin sounds, she is completely beside herself. Lines 10-12: Burnett uses the exclamation, Oh! to communicate Just how rare of a moment this is for Mary. By writing, To think, she insinuates that Mary had never experienced or expected to experience this kind of acceptance from anyone, not even a bird. Burnett begins to write in the point of view of the robin when she says, He knew nothing in the world would make her put out her hand This allows the eader to be able to see the bird as a human, Just like Mary does. Lines 13-15: Burnett goes on to qualify the robin as completely human. She writes, he was a real person-only nicer than any other person in the world. We as readers know that there are many other people in the world who are that nice, and much nicer. But Mary has not met many people who are kind to her, and this is proof. Mary is so happy that she scarcely dared to breathe. This statement is a great descriptor of the situation because her happiness is so extreme that it has affected er physically. Lines 16-20: Burnett transitions the scene to the flower-bed where a key scene occurs- this is where Mary finds the key to the secret garden. Burnett describes the garden as currently bare for the most part because of winter, which is foreshadowing the spring to come and new growth to occur (in the garden as well as in Mary). The robin stops on a pile of freshly turned up earth, thus leading Mary to notice that a dog had scratched quite a deep hole. Befriending the robin not only gave Mary a companion, but it also led her to the key.

Addiction for Plastic Surgeries Essay Example for Free
Addiction for Plastic Surgeries Essay ? Plastic surgery is a medical field that deals with reshaping some body deformities that may have occurred due to birth defects or accidents. It is also used for other purposes such as treating diseases and beauty purposes. An example of a disease which can be treated through plastic surgery is melanoma. If plastic surgery is carried out for younger looks or beauty purposes, it is referred to as cosmetic surgery. This paper will directly address the issue of cosmetic surgery since it is what has caused plastic surgeries addiction all over the world. Cosmetic surgeries are never related to any medical condition and are normally done to enhance the physical appearance of an individual. Cosmetic surgery addicts are easily identifiable due to the numerous surgeries they undergo each time claiming that they are not happy with their looks. Many victims of cosmetic surgery suffer from a medical condition known as Body Dimorphic Disorder (BDD). This mental disorder has made people imagine that they look different from others and there is a need for surgery so that they can improve their looks. Discussion Cosmetic surgery is a major problem today as a number of people who are addicted to it are doing it repeatedly in order to achieve their imaginary beauty. This practice is becoming frequent and in many instances it is affecting women as they try to change and improve their physical appearances. The problem with such kind of people only exists in their mind because it is hard to view yourself as being ugly from others, it is only a perception. If you view yourself as being ugly from others, the problem will never end even if you undergo so many plastic surgeries. This perception will directly influence the level of your happiness and accepting yourself the way you are. The practices of undergoing plastic surgery repeatedly in order to feel happy and look like the ones you view as more beautiful than yourself is what doctors refer to as BDD. This condition normally affects both male and females under the age of 18 equally (Gorbis, 2003). People suffering from BDD use plastic surgery as a solution to their unending dissatisfaction with their body physical appearance (Gorbis, 2003). Almost all people who suffer from BDD seek solution to cosmetic surgery. As a surgeon, you should be able to discover someone suffering from this medical condition and recommend him/her to a psychologist. Any invention has both positive and negative sides but plastic surgery addiction would cause more harm to the body compared to the benefits associated with it. For instance, it can damage the skin and muscle tissue of an individual permanently. Another well-known harm caused by plastic surgery addiction is the permanent nerve damage. This may result to permanent loss of feeling and sensation in all the affected areas of an individual who have undergone plastic surgery repeatedly. Many individuals who undergo plastic surgery repeatedly to perfect their physical appearances in most cases end up with irreversible damage that make them look awful compared to their original appearances. Plastic surgery addiction cause more harm to the physical appearance of people with BDD instead of enhancing it. People suffering from BDD undergo plastic surgery so that they can attract attention from the public. They later regret when things go wrong. This is an indication that it should be discouraged and people suffering from BDD should be referred to a Psychiatrist or psychologist instead of a surgeon. Plastic surgery is not cost friendly at all. The operation is very expensive and its outcomes are sometimes not worth the price. What the addicted victims fail to understand is that, plastic surgery operation can only result to two things. That is, a great success or a failure. This means that, the more operations you undergo, the higher the risk of failure (Pruitt, 2009). Many individuals who are addicted to plastic surgery are attracted by what they see in the media. They watch successful surgeries of famous celebrities and think that it might as well work on. This is not usually the case and the individuals we watch on the media having successful surgeries sometimes develop problems at a later date. Plastic surgery addiction is very different from drugs and other things addiction in that it fulfills people physiological needs. Therefore, it is normally difficult for individuals who are not satisfied with their physical appearance to stop plastic surgery. This is something they are viewing in the mirror now and then. If they are not satisfied with what they see, they will definitely run to a surgeon so that the body part they feel is not well placed can be rectified. The problem with such an individual is that he/she is likely not to be satisfied with many body parts. Thus, resulting to a series of plastic surgeries so as to be satisfied with his/her physical appearance. In my opinion, I would only recommend plastic surgery to individuals who have a medical problem. I would never encourage cosmetic surgery because it is doing more harm than enhancing appearance of individuals who are undertaking it. Most people who are addicted to cosmetic surgeries perceive themselves in the wrong manner. They normally have their imaginary images on their minds which they think they can turn to after the operation. This normally does not happen and that is why they undergo so many operations before they realize they are destroying their images. Plastic surgery should only be carried out under medical conditions not for pleasure. Pictures are all over the internet showing how plastic surgery addiction has caused a number of celebrities to lose their good looks. Cosmetic surgery is not good at all because it has not worked well for people who have done it. They are suffering from negative impacts of plastic surgery addiction. It should be therefore be discouraged unless under medical conditions. Conclusion Plastic surgery is not bad if it is used for solving a medical condition. However, having a plastic surgery for beauty purposes or look young should be discouraged by all means. It should be discouraged because it might possibly lead to addiction. Physicians as well as public awareness concerning BDD should be increased to control the unnecessary plastic surgeries. Doctors should also try their best to identify troubled patients so that they can direct them to psychologist or psychiatrist who can advise them. There are other treatments other than surgeries which can help people who have problems with their physical appearance. Psychologist and psychiatrists can really assist individuals with plastic surgeries addiction. The only problem to the control of this addiction is that cosmetic and plastic surgery is so accessible and doctors have not provided a regulation on the number of surgeries an individual should undergo in a given period. Addiction for Plastic Surgeries. (2016, Nov 13).

SHORT ANSWER ONLY Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
SHORT ANSWER ONLY - Assignment Example It can be described as the stage that a particular society or individual has reached e.g. stone age culture. It covers such things as shared ethics and beliefs as well behaviour. As long ago as 1889 Taylor defined culture as ââ¬Ë the complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other capabilities acquired by man as a member society.ââ¬â¢ Anthropology is the study of these various cultures. I belong to early 21st century westernised socity. Culture is affected by environment, but also by what the group want. Breen declared ( 2006)that culture was societyââ¬â¢s answer to lifeââ¬â¢s basic questions. Human society has come up with many different answers over time , as varied as Egypt under the Pharaohs to modern street culture. 2. Reciprocity, General, Balanced and Negative. In general reciprocity refers to relationships . These can involve only two individuals or many more as in a village or town, a team or a school class. A balanced recip rocity is a situation involving trust on both sides, where each benefits equally from a relationship e.g. a loving couple. It could also refer to the common negative aspects of this, such as some lack of individual choice and freedom. Negative reciprocity occurs when, in one of many ways, resources are broken down. Some factors involved are accepted by society e.g. a trader needing to make a profit. As a customer I realize this and am happy because he has given me something, even at a cost. Slave labor is an example of a very negative reciprocity. These various relationships are studied by anthropologists in order to better understand society in its many forms. 3. Extended Family - this refers to all the people one is related to, however distant the relationship. It includes both blood relationships, and also those who are related by marriage or partnership with a blood relative i.e in-laws and partners. This means not just a set of parents and children, but their spouses, cousins, aunts and all the rest. A clan or tribe can , in many instance, be considered as an extended family, and all humans belong to the world wide family of humanity, both those alive and those who preceded us. Perhaps this is why I can see a face from far away and recognise family likenesses. A nuclear family refers to one couple and their offspring as an isolated unit. In many instances in modern society this nuclear family will live alone, away from other extended family members. According to Sixth Senseââ¬â¢ ( 2005) functionalists see this type of family as positive as it means that the human race is continuing. Study of both kinds of family can help with planning for such things as education, marketing, house building and economics. 4. Kinship . This is defined as a relationship by blood ( consanguinity) or adoption and generally refers to family relationships . Often in a kinship group there will be shared characteristics such as dark hair, or great height. The members of such a group may also share common ethical and moral ideas, which is why some family members find it difficult when a member joins , perhaps in marriage, with someone from a very different group who hold differing ideas. The term can also be used for those , not necessarily related, but who share an affinity in that there are common bonds such as my fellow students in college, in that what affects one affects the others e.g. the price of accommodation or a liking for a certain type of music.. The term is defined by the Sociology Dictionary (

Body Reactions to Emotion Evoking Situations Essay
Body Reactions to Emotion Evoking Situations - Essay Example Since such situations do not arise every day, I decided to use movies to observe that behavior. Movies such as horror movies, soap operas, high-level comedy and thrillers are known for eliciting emotional responses in the audience. So one Friday evening, I decided to go to a cinema to watch a movie where a horror movie called The Ruins was to show that night. At a round 8pm, I entered the cinema hall. It was dark inside which was an excellent atmosphere for such a movie as the effect on the audience was sure to be profound. I looked for some space and, lucky enough, I got myself sandwiched between a lady and a man. This was excellent as I could be able to observe the response of a man and a lady simultaneously and compare the results. That Friday evening was the beginning of a number of visits to the cinema hall, where I watched movies like Anaconda, The Wrong Turn, Piranha, soap operas like In the Name of Love, Storm Over Paradise and Triumph Of Love and thrillers like 24 and Sparta cus. In all these situations, I observed the responses among different people and their body reactions. I also made some observations on myself on how my body reacted. This research was carried out with reference to the literature that explains the relationship between the body and emotions; how the body reacts to different emotions. ... The bodyââ¬â¢s reaction to shock is different from the bodyââ¬â¢s reaction to anger. Moreover, different body parts are involved in the reaction of different emotions, although the face is the dominant part in the expression of emotions.. Psychologists attribute most physical health problems like backache to emotions, especially emotional stress. Prinz (2006) asserts that if we understand how the various body parts relate to certain emotions, we can be able to understand our subconscious. This can help in healing diseases related to emotions as understanding our subconscious helps in knowing the root cause of the problem. Several theories have been developed by scientists on the way emotions are generated and the body reactions to such emotions. One such theory that was advanced to explain the relationship between the bodyââ¬â¢s reactions and emotions was developed basing on the study by an American scientist by the name William James and a Danish scientist called Carl Lange . Studying independently, the two scientists asserted that two factors determine the feeling of an emotion: the reaction of the body and how a person understands that reaction after an event. William and Lange believed that changes in the body occur before the interpretation of the changes. The two are what constitute emotion. The study by Lange and James led to development of theory called James Lange theory (William and McDermott, 1978). Other theories that have since been developed to explain the same include the theory by Cannon and Bard and also by American scientists, Singer and Schacter. Bard and Cannon made use of the nervous system to explain how emotions are generated and the response of the body to such emotions. They assert that the body reacts

The benefits of Massage on depression and anxiety Research Paper
The benefits of Massage on depression and anxiety - Research Paper Example There are diverse schools of massage, which yields various forms of massage. Massage therapists frequently combine several techniques, although some therapists (purists) stick to one method. There are several types of massage such as aromatherapy, reflexology, shiatsu massage, relaxation massage, and remedial massage. Deep tissue massage mainly utilizes enhanced pressure to reach deeper levels of muscles (Karen et al. 442). Shiatsu massage also employs deep pressure, while neuromuscular massage employs strong pressure to tender spots (trigger points). There are several theories that attempt to explain how massage might work; however, none of the advanced theories has adequately been proved to be true (Field et al. 125). Some massage therapists and massage therapy schools assert that massage breaks up calcium deposits within the muscle; however, there is no objective validation of this assertion. Some forms of massage such as acupressure, reflexology, and Rolfing Structural Integration possess elaborate theories behind them, but there exists no scientific evidence to back the theories (Dryden and Moyer 94). Another advanced explanation details that massage facilitates healing by reducing the incidence of stress and bringing about relaxation. Massage also gratifies the basic human need to be touched. Massage therapy remains predominantly employed to relieve muscular tension and deliver relaxation. Massage is touted to be helpful as an aid in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions such as attention deficit disorder (ADD), autism, asthma, eczema, low back pain, neck pain, spinal cord injury, and bedsores. Although there is a collection of evidence pointing out that massage may be helpful for diverse forms of medical purposes, the evidence on the efficacy of massage is not strong (Dryden and Moyer 95). Several reasons can be cited for this, with the most outstanding being that even with

Processes Of Post Partum Care Nursing Essay
Processes Of Post Partum Care Nursing Essay Postpartum care presents a special challenge, as it concerns two i.e. mother and her baby people with very distinct needs. However it is believed that contribution to good quality care ensure to balance the challenge. The major maternal and neonatal health challenges include nutrition and breastfeeding, birth spacing, immunization and HIV/AIDS, therefore Post partum care is pre-eminently about the provision of a supportive environment in which a woman, her baby and the wider family can begin their new life together. Therefore this guideline aims to identify the essential core (routine) care that every woman and her baby should receive in the first 6-8 weeks after birth, based on the best evidence available. This guideline has been written within a conceptual framework which places the woman and her baby at the centre of care, appreciating that all post partum care should be delivered in partnership with the woman and should be individualized to meet the needs of each mother-infant dyad. Thus this clinical guideline of post partum is to offer information to support midwives to increase the knowledge and skills that enable them to handle mothers and their neonates and management of postpartum complication, and referral. Objectives: Perform postpartum examination on mother and baby and provide care to ensure safe post partum. Provide first line EmONC or referral for the complication occurring during postpartum period Facilitate the process of lactation and infant bounding. Support of the mother and her family in the transition to a new family constellation, and response to their needs prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of complications of mother and infant, including the prevention of vertical transmission of diseases from mother to infant Counsel the couple for: resumption of sexual activity and birth spacing regular contraception service, emergency contraceptive methods, dispelling myths and birth spacing in special situation. maternal nutrition, and supplementation if necessary baby care support of breastfeeding Immunization of the infant and mother. Referral of mother and infant for specialist care when necessary CLINICAL PLACEMENT Out Patient Department Postnatal wards Well baby room Community Primary Health Care centers POST PARTUM VISIT SCHEDULE AFTER 3rd STAGE OF LABOUR TILL 2 HOURS AFTER 2 HOURS TILL 24 Hours First visit (within the first week, preferably within 2-3 days) Second visit (4-6 weeks) More frequent visits or different schedules may be required according to client need and or hospital policy. Encourage the woman to bring her partner or family member to at least 1 visit. Sicilian Meta-Network Essay -- Social Issues, Mafioso Families
Mafioso families have network structures that are distinct from those in typical hierarchical organizationsââ¬âthey are cellular and distributed. While most politicians and law enforcement agents have at least an intuitive understanding of hierarchies and how to affect their behavior, they have less of an understanding of how to even go about reasoning about dynamic networked organizations (Ronfelt and Arquilla, 2001). It is even more difficult to understand how such networks will evolve, change, adapt and how they can be destabilized. Clearly social network analysis can be applied to the study of covert networks (Sparrow, 1991). However, it would be a mistake to assume that in order to understand these networks we just need to ââ¬Å"connect the dotsâ⬠and then isolate the ââ¬Å"keyâ⬠actors who are often defined in terms of their ââ¬Å"centralityâ⬠in the network. To an extent, this is right, as in the case of bridging members embedded within patron-client networks. However, within covert networks such as Cosa Nostra, this assumption belies the difficulty of ââ¬Å"connecting the dotsâ⬠in terms of mining vast quantities of information, pattern matching on characteristics for mafiosi who often go under multiple aliases, and still ending up with information the may be intentionally misleading, inaccurate, out-of-date, and incomplete. Further, this belies the difficulty in ââ¬Å"knowingâ⬠who is the most central when you have at best only a sample of the network. Finally, and critically, this approach does not contend with the most pressing problemââ¬âthe underlying network is dynamic. Just because you isolate a key actor today does not mean that the network will be destabilized and unable to respond. Rather, it is possible, that isolating such an actor may have... ...ertise is critical. This is particularly applicable to Cosa Nostra considering that, according to Gambetta, mafiosi are highly specialized according to specific tasks. (Gambetta 67) There are two key themes underlying these results. First, it is easier to determine how to impact the performance or the flow of information through an organization than it is to determine exactly how it will adapt. It is easier to destabilize a network than to determine what new goals it will form or new tasks it will take on. This is a function of our lack of knowledge about the processes of adaptation other than learning. Second, the relative impact of destabilization strategies strongly depends on the underlying organizational architecture, that is, on the meta-network itself. As such, a key interpretation of these results is in terms of destabilizing different classes of networks.

Health Care System of Taiwan and the United States
Health Care Systems of Taiwan and the United States Health care is one of the most essential foundations for any citizenship in any country since whether it is effective or not, it definitely affects the standard of living and the life expectancy of a country. According to Johnson and Stoskopf (2009), ââ¬Å"A health system as described by the World Health Organization (WHO) is the sum total of all the organizations, institutions, and resources whose primary purpose is to improve health,â⬠(p. 3). Therefore, to positively improve a nation, having an effective ealth care system is crucial.Being recognized as one of the powerful countries in the world, the United States has a great shape of health care programs; however, sometimes it is inaccessible to some of the citizens. On the contrary, as a small country, Taiwan is famous for its health care system although there are still defective parts existing in the current system. To compare the differences of health care systems in Tai wan and the United States, we can observe the three major aspects: ownership, cost, and quality. First of all, Taiwan and the United States have different types of ownership in the health care systems. Thus, Taiwan owns a single-payer system, which is run by the government, forcing everyone to Join it and pay. Because of this policy, the coverage of health care is close to 99 percent (Underwood, 2009). In this country, the government-run system covers prevention, primary care, hospitalization, Chinese massage, acupuncture, traditional herbal medicine, mental health care, dental, vision, and long-term care. Unlike Taiwan, the United States possesses several types of ublic and private funding systems: Medicare and Medicaid are the two main public funded plans for Americans. There is also abundance of private insurance companies for people to choose, but they usually have a long list of pre-existing conditions, which restricts many patients since they are unable to receive health care in surance. Although the United States contains public and private programs, nearly 15. 6 percent of Americans had no health insurance in 2003, (Samuel D. , 2010). Secondly, the cost of health care for Taiwanese and Americans is divergent. Thus, Taiwan spends approximately 6 percent of G. D. P. on health care while the United State spends about 16 percent of G.D. P. (Seth B. , 2009, p. 1). Moreover, in Taiwan, people merely have to pay small amount of money set by the Bureau of National Health Insurance (BNHI) for each medical service received, and the BNHI will cover the rest of the payment (Taiwan Health Care Reform Foundation, 2010). As a result, no one in Taiwan goes bankrupt due to the medical bill. Unlike Taiwanese, a lot of Americans undergo bankruptcy since they cannot afford their medical bills. Finally, the quality of health care in Taiwan is not the same as that in the United to turn to.Moreover, there is no waiting time for patients which highly enhances the effectiveness o f health care. The competition between public and private hospitals improves the quality. Furthermore, every Taiwanese who is under the coverage has a Smart Card: an electronic health record, which is required for patient to bring along when seeing a doctor. The nurses would scan the card and all the medical record of that patient would appear clearly. It is a paperless system that improves treatment nd reduces redundant process of paperwork.Different from Taiwan, the insurance companies in the United States limit the patients in what doctors and hospitals they can go to, and it is necessary to set up an appointment in advance. In conclusion, it should be underscored that the ownership of health care systems plays an important role for a country because it might affect the entire system. The cost determines whether or not the citizens of the country are able to pay for the bills. The overall quality is a critical aspect of health care system since it ight either directly or indirect ly influence a patient's well-being.It is quite difficult for me to conclude which one of the health care systems is more effective due to the fact that Taiwan and the United States are distinctive in many ways, such as population and country size. Nevertheless, there are still several aspects that the United States can learn from Taiwan: for instance, studying other nations' health care system. Before deciding on a health care system, the experts in Taiwan carried out research on several successful countries' programs and eventually established its wn in 1995.

Marxism vs Functionalism
As a sociological discipline, functionalism is counterposed to Marxism. However it shares with Marxism the importance of ââ¬Ëtotalityââ¬â¢ and the corresponding view that scientific inquiry is based upon the interdependence of parts within a whole. It is important to distinguish why the Marxian use of the totality differs significantly from functionalist systems. Primarily this involves the Marxian emphasis on the contradictory character of the whole and the treatment of the social totality from the perspective of its conflicts.Functionalism in contrast views society generally as a stable system and looks for the mechanisms that give it harmony ââ¬â it thus seeks to reduce conflict to a residual element of the system, or view conflict from the perspective of its maintenance of the social system. Marxism was founded by Karl Marx. Marx saw society as divided into two major parts, the economic base otherwise known as the infrastructure and the super-structure. Functionalists s ee society as a set of parts which work together to form a whole. Functionalism is also called a consensus theory.Marxism and functionalism are similar in that they see that the way society is structured as an important part in determining the way people have relationships and behave between themselves. This is known as structural perspective. Both functionalists and Marxists believe that people are portrayed as creature within the social system. Functionalists believe that society operates to the benefit of everybody. They stress that societies continue to exist because a lot of the time there is consensus between various aspects.
